Our dog policy for pet‑friendly stays: cottage gardens, pack management, arrival procedures and WhatsApp coordination to keep all dogs safe. VISITING WITH YOUR DOG DOG POLICY LANGDAM DOG POLICY FORM Please read through our dog policy carefully and sign the form below Langdam Dog Policy/ Agreement Langdam happily welcomes all dogs and their owners to the farm. In order to ensure the safety of your dog and other dogs that may be present during your stay, please read the following information and stipulations carefully. It is your responsibility to inform us of any specific requirements you may have for your dog prior to booking. Our cottages are not suitable for dogs that have a tendency to run away or that require escape proof fencing. The cottages are surrounded by low stone walls of about 1 meter to 1.2 meters high depending on the cottage and cannot contain a dog motivated to jump the wall. Langdam is home to a pack of eight rescued dogs, ranging from medium to large breed. We prefer to keep our dogs inside while guest dogs are not within the boundary of their own cottage as they can be territorial. All guests travelling with a dog will be added to a WhatsApp group. You are to send a message in the group should you leave the boundary of your cottage with your dog and let us know when you return. The farm pack usually goes for a walk between 7:00 and 8:00 daily. Please let us know the night before if you would like to take your dog on an early morning hike, (before 8AM). We will put our dogs away, prior to your arrival, please send us a text to inform us when you are thirty minutes from the farm, which will be as soon as you turn onto the R318 if you are driving the N1 route or as soon as you leave Montagu if you are driving from Route 62. Please keep your dog inside your car on arrival until one of our staff comes to meet with you. If you have a reactive dog that is not friendly with other dogs the following will apply: Your dog will be restricted to your designated dog-friendly cottage and the dam on the lower portion of the farm. In addition, your dog will then have access to the main farm to enjoy the upper dams and hiking trail at designated times. Other dogs will be put away during your allocated time. Please note these time slots are to be arranged in advance as we may have other guests on the farm with dogs that will also need to be considered. Pre-arranged time slots must fall between: 8:00 - 18:00 and up to two hours in a day may be booked with no more than one hour at a time. In the event that you wish to do a longer hike on the mountain, a longer time slot for this purpose can be arranged. Plum and Guinea Fowl are best suited for dogs that do not get along with other dogs. Langdam will not be held responsible for any injury or harm that may come to your dog during your stay on the farm. The nearest vet is in Robertson, which is an hour’s drive from the farm. Dogs are to be supervised at all times while swimming in the dam or pool. We advise the use of an anti-tick treatment prior to your arrival on the farm. Be aware that there may be snakes, scorpions, spiders and other creatures that could pose a risk to your dog. We have free roaming horses, chickens, geese etc. on the farm. For your dog’s safety, Please ensure that your dog does not chase them. Our neighbours are sheep farmers. It is absolutely essential that your dog be kept off the neighbouring farms. With 5 pet friendly cottages, Three on the lower half of the farm with a little more seclusion and privacy(perfect for those dogs and owners that need a little more room to themselves) and 2 cottages on the main farm, closer to the activity of farm life and more suited to the more laid-back pups in this world. All our dog friendly cottages have enclosed gardens with a low wall to keep less athletic dogs in. Please note if your pooch wants to escape one of our gardens, they probably can. She is endearingly aloof and a big foodie, with a knack for finding anything edible while on a walk. She will greet you with a happy ‘woowoowoo’ and she loves to cuddle with her parents. She is the youngest and largest of the pack! Cobra - " Coby " Cobra came to us from DARG in Cape Town. He is a sensitive soul with a big heart and his snoring will put a buffalo to shame. He loves sleeping with mom or dad’s clothing and will destroy an ‘indestructible’ toy before you can blink. Sasha - " Smish " Sasha is the apple of her dad's eye, Sasha loves her soft toys, pine cones and swimming in the dam. She came to the farm from Betty’s Bay. She is a highly intelligent and sensitive soul with a slightly obsessive passion for tennis balls. Chevy - " Dingles " Dingles, was picked up off the side of the road as a tiny pup, Dingles loves all people and will find a way to cuddle with you whether you like it or not. A serious foodie, you can count on her asking for a snack at any opportunity. Shelby - " Shelby Shakes " Shelby came to us from DARG and has been on the farm from the beginning. The oldest of the lot she is the matriarch of the pack. A gentle bird with a love for a wade in the water and baking in the sun. Kai - " Bear " Kai is the new Alpha of the pack. He came to us as a problem child from Johannesburg and is now the best boy! He loves and will protect his mom above all else. He is a keen listener and loves to play fight with his sister Abby and cousin Chinook. Chinook - " Chokker " Our little Mak jakkals came to us from Rescue is Life in Cape Town. Chinook is particular about the company she keeps but loves her mom and dad above all. She is always keen for an adventure on the mountain and her favourite food is wild hare and fresh farm eggs. Clara - " Micky Mouse " Clara, a rescue from The Animal Welfare Society Overberg is the black sheep of the pack, a bit of an odd ball but super affectionate and insistent on attention. She loves spending time indoors with her dad, and would rather skip the hike if she has a choice. FRIENDS OF THE FARM GALLERY Our Horse Rescues Langdam has accidentally become a retirement village for our 3 Horses, Moons, Lady and Angel. Originally from Have-a-Heart horse rescue, the original intention for their addition to the farm was to incorporate them into a trail riding program, it soon however became apparent that these three ladies were better suited to a life of luxury, which is precisely what they got. I Believe in Angels - " Angel " 'I believe in Angels' is our one-eyed Thoroughbred and former mistreated racehorse from Have a Heart, she came to us with one seeing eye after an accident led to an eye infection. She now lives her days happily grazing in the Langdam orchards and vineyards and will love you for bringing her a carrot, or two! Moons a Balloon - " Moons " Moons a Balloon or 'Moons, the extrovert and spicy gal of the three and also a rescue from Have a Heart. Western Winter, a famous Sire was her father, and a legend in the horse world. She is absolutely magnificent and will do her best to sneak onto the lawn for some tasty grass. She loves apples and carrots and is not one to share with her siblings! Lady Lady, our blonde bombshell Saddle Horse came to us from Have a heart horse rescue, an older gal, she is the surprising matriarch of the pack. A little on the shy side with humans, she has a fierce bond with her horse sisters. All the Rest No farm is complete without a flock of chickens, a gaggle of geese or a posse of turkeys. Langdam has all of the above, our vast array of poultry really adds to the out of city feeling of the farm. Wake up to the sound of our roosters crowing and join Lewis, our animal caretaker, while he feeds his flock . This collection of domestic fowl are often joined by their wild cousins, guinea fowl, franklin, weavers, hoepoe and hundreds of others. Turkeys They won't win the competition for the most beautiful animals on the farm, but they will provide you with some comic relief. Geese We have a gaggle of geese that are wonderful to watch as they drift majestically in the Langdam dam. They are feisty but friendly, provided they aren't sitting on a clutch of eggs! Chickens Langdam is home to a large flock of chickens, providing us with farm fresh eggs when they are feeling cooperative. The roosters will most likely be the reason you wake up at crack of dawn, welcome to farm life! Where the wild things are This page would not be complete without a mention of the wild animals we share this valley with. We are lucky enough to have 16000 hectares of wilderness on our boundary filled with the animals which belong here more than we ever will. The mountain sustains a nomadic troop of baboon, a healthy population of Rhebok, some very shy Cape leopard, porcupine, aardvark, duiker, Steenbok, Jackal, hare, dassies and an incredible variety of bird life. Our organic farming practices have helped to draw them onto Langdam itself, an honour we are proud to share with our guests. We hope you have the pleasure of seeing some of these elusive creatures ad ask that all our guests treat any animals on this farm with the kindness and respect they all deserve. Giving a little bit back Langdam is proudly affiliated with Howlelujah, a non-profit doing vital rescue work in Cape Town. Many farming communities face challenges in caring for their animals, leading to overpopulation, neglect, and unwanted litters. Howlelujah tackles this through education, as well as vaccination and sterilisation drives held twice a year at Langdam Farm in the Koo Valley. Things to do at Langdam: bass fishing, hiking, birding, snow days, stargazing and a 4x4 route—set among vineyards and Langeberg peaks. THINGS TO DO EXPERIENCE ACTIVITIES on the FARM While the single best thing to do on the farm is simply relax, or so we are told. There are plenty of other activities to keep you busy during your stay: excellent bass fishing, breathtaking hikes, mountain biking, experiencing our mountain snow or taking in our bird life to name but a few. Try to twist the owner's arm for a nighttime rabbit hunt or jump in with the team to help with a harvest, Langdam will open a window to a life that most of the world has forgotten. 1/7 FISHING Fish in one of our 3 very well stocked dams, one right at the Lapa, one above the Campsite and one on the lower boundary of the farm. We have giant asian grass carp, largemouth bass and bluegill in beautiful clear water from the mountain spring. We offer rods and lures for rent or bring your own gear. Respecting the wildlife, fish and animals of the farm is very important to us, we therefore ask that you carefully read and follow our fishing policy below. VIEW FISHING POLICY VIEW DAM LOCATIONS HIKING If you are looking for a new hiking experience in the Western Cape the Langeberg mountains and Langdam is all you need. We have some of the most beautiful hikes in the country in our back garden and we encourage all our guests to try one of our breathtaking trails. Tortoise Trail for those looking for something fairly relaxed, Eagle trail for a half-day push up the mountain or Gecko Trail for a challenging overnight stay. This stretch of the Langeberg forms part of Traverse 5 the RIM of Africa hike and should not be missed. Think Lions head without the people, or Fish River canyon without the heat. A sanctuary for all our feathered friends, see Hoopoes, Black eagle, Jackal buzzard, Shrikes, Swallows, Finches, Weavers, Spoonbill, Heron, Blue crane and hundreds more. Let us know when you have a unique sighting and help us build our bird gallery by sharing your photos. LANGDAM LEKKER CATERING MENU CATERING In addition to our standard self-catering stays and events, we also offer catered options. Our menu is full of hearty home cooked choices, should you however have a special request or you would like to chat to us about catering for a larger group or specific event please send us a mail or give us a call to customise your order. Everything on our menu is cooked with fresh local ingredients and prepared in small batches, all catering must therefore be ordered at least 48 hours prior to arrival. Should you choose to make use of our catering services, please indicate what you would like from the menu below when confirming your booking. We also provide a cottage stocking service for a nominal fee. All items come from Checkers Robertson and will be waiting for you on arrival. Please include your shopping list in your booking should you wish to make use of this service. In addition to this we have a small farm shop with some of the essentials like milk and eggs as well as some of the less essential like homemade jams and preserves, chips, sweets and drinks. Guests are also welcome to cater their own events, and all cottages are fully equipped for self-catering, making it easy to prepare and enjoy meals together. Weekend Accommodation Langdam offers on-site self-catering accommodation for up to 48 guests: • The Cottage sleeps up to 28 guests. • Safari Tents sleep up to 20 guests. Overflow guests can be comfortably accommodated on neighbouring farms, ensuring everyone can stay close and enjoy the full weekend experience.
